Rangers midfielder Thelo Aasgaard is part of a Norway squad through to the World Cup knockout stage after a 3-2 win over Senegal in New Jersey on Monday night.
Norway’s second Group I victory sends Stale Solbakken’s side into the round of 32 before their final group match against France, giving Aasgaard at least one more game on the tournament stage this summer.
Erling Haaland scored twice after Marcus Pedersen had opened the scoring, with Ismaila Sarr’s double keeping Senegal alive until the final whistle. The result was confirmed in The Guardian’s Norway 3-2 Senegal match coverage, which noted Norway’s first progress from a World Cup group since 1998.
Aasgaard’s Rangers Profile Gets Another World Cup Lift
Aasgaard’s role in the Norway squad matters at Ibrox even if the headlines inevitably belong to Haaland. The 24-year-old arrived at Rangers from Luton Town last summer and ended the domestic season with goals in the final two Scottish Premiership matches against Hibernian and Falkirk.
Rangers had already highlighted his impressive qualification campaign, including a goal and assist in a 5-0 win over Moldova and four goals off the bench in the return fixture.
Norway now face France on Friday, June 26. For Derek McInnes, every extra week of high-level tournament exposure gives Aasgaard another chance to return to Glasgow sharper, more confident and harder to ignore when pre-season selection debates begin.
