The Rangers FC Hall of Fame

In 1999, Rangers Football Club established its Hall of Fame to honour the greatest players in the club’s illustrious history.

The honour and recognition system was created to recognise exceptional service and lasting contributions made to the club.

Rangers Hall of Fame quickly became one of the highest distinctions any player could achieve.

It should only be reserved for the very best and while some fans would argue there is a recency bias with some modern additions, you don’t get your name on that hallowed board for nothing.

How the Rangers Hall of Fame was formed

While the club initially selected the inductees, the process was opened to the fans from 2001 onwards.

This change allowed the passionate and fiercely loyal Rangers supporters to play a direct role in deciding which players deserved a place among the club’s legends.

The founding members, Sandy Jardine, John Greig, David Mason (club historian), and David Murray (then Chairman) defined the criteria for induction.

  • Service to the club
  • Number of appearances
  • Honours won while at Rangers
  • International caps earned during their time at the club
  • Exceptional ability and impact

Together, these attributes celebrate not only statistical achievement but also dedication, loyalty, and on-pitch excellence.

Today, the Rangers Hall of Fame stands as a proud tribute to the club’s storied heritage and its most iconic figures.

By honouring the players who have shaped its history, it continues to inspire current and future generations of players to strive for greatness in the famous blue jersey.

The most recent inductions to Rangers Hall of Fame were made in 2023, when Steven Davis, Allan McGregor and James Tavernier were honoured.

At present, the list now contains 95 names.

They range from the founders to the best of recent years.

From Moses McNeil and William McBeath, Ian McMillan and Davie Meiklejohn, to Jimmy Millar and Ralph Brand, to Willie Johnston and Colin Stein. Davie Cooper and Graeme Souness, Ally McCoist and Mark Hateley, to Davie Weir and Steven Davis and everyone in between.
