Lawrence Shankland Keeps Rangers Reunion With Derek McInnes On Hold
Lawrence Shankland has parked his Rangers reunion with Derek McInnes while Scotland prepare for their World Cup group decider against Brazil in Miami on Wednesday night.
The striker is due to join up with Rangers after Scotland’s tournament work is complete, having made the move from Hearts earlier this summer.
For now, though, the message from the 30-year-old is clear. Club business can wait. Scotland have a chance to reach the World Cup knockout stage, and Shankland has framed the Brazil match as the only priority.
Why Shankland’s Timing Matters For Rangers
The interest for Rangers supporters is not just whether Shankland starts or scores in Miami. It is how quickly he can return from international duty and begin work under McInnes, who has already started shaping his first pre-season at Ibrox.
Shankland told The Scottish Sun that Scotland are focused on the job in front of them, with Brazil standing between Steve Clarke’s side and a possible historic next step.
That leaves Rangers waiting, but it is hardly a bad problem. A striker arriving from a major international tournament with sharpness, pressure minutes and confidence would give McInnes a stronger platform than a quiet summer handover.
Once Scotland’s campaign ends, Shankland’s attention turns fully to Rangers. Until then, Ibrox has to share him with the biggest stage in the game.
