Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are interested in signing out-of-contract West Bromwich Albion defender Gareth McAuley, according to the Daily Record.
The 38-year-old Northern Ireland star is a free agent having left The Baggies at the end of the season.
It’s reported that Ranger’s director of football Mark Allen has contacted the defender’s representatives as they consider offering him a one-year-deal.
Following West Brom’s relegation to the Championship last season it is believed that McAuley would be keen on a move to Rangers to play in Scotland’s top flight.

McAuley is also said to be catching the eye of several Championship clubs, in particular Aston Villa, as they look to replace John Terry who has left the club after just one season in the Midlands.
McAuley earnt his 78th international cap for Northern Ireland against Costa Rica on Sunday and hopes to continue playing at the top of the game in order to extend his international career for as long as possible.
It is reported that McAuley is waiting to see if Gerrard will instruct Allen to make a formal offer for his services.
