  • Rangers pre-season is set to get underway on 19 June
  • Coventry City have been strongly rumoured to be coming to Ibrox in July
  • Transfers will be impacted by the World Cup, but the club intends on more new faces for Day 1

It feels like the dust has just settled on the massive disappointment that was the 2025/26 campaign, but Rangers pre-season will commence in just three weeks.

It will be here in no time.

By 19 June, the World Cup will be starting its second week, but that is the date that Danny Rohl’s squad will reconvene to start building for 2026/27.

The players representing their respective countries in the US, Canada, and Mexico will not be present.

They will have an extended rest period once their time is up at the tournament, but the rest will be put through their paces.

Rangers World Cup players

New signing Lawrence Shankland will be joined by Findlay Curtis, John Souttar, and Liam Kelly in the Scotland camp.

Thelo Aasgaard will represent Norway and Nico Raskin will be part of Belgium’s group.

The temporary absence of that quintet will not be a massive burden for Rohl.

Rangers pre-season transfers

The signing of Lawrence Shankland so early was an unexpected bonus to most of us on the outside.

It delivered a timely boost for the fans, and adds a new dimension for the squad upon Scotland’s return from the World Cup.

No other signings are thought to be imminent, but the process continues.

Dan Neil is under consideration, while Rangers are said to be ready to make a bid for Luke Graham, the emerging Dundee centre-half.

Josh Windass isn’t on the verge of a return to Ibrox, despite reports to the contrary.

Chairman Andrew Cavenagh stated that the World Cup would complicate Rangers pre-season transfer plans, but the work continues.

There will be activity ongoing now, with the club aiming to have more bodies on board by 19 June.

Rangers pre-season plans and Coventry rumour

This time last year, the club had announced its training and friendly game arrangements.

That shouldn’t be too far away now, especially after the online rumour mill suggested today that Frank Lampard’s Coventry City will be visiting Ibrox over the last weekend of July.

The newly promoted Premier League side would be the type of opponent likely to be lined up in what should be the usual type of home and away games scheduled.

Last summer was a bit of an anomaly under Russell Martin with the squad playing four behind-closed-doors bounce games, as well as 2-2 draws with Club Brugge and Middlesbrough, respectively.

St. George’s Park was the venue for Rangers pre-season camp in 2025. This time around, Danny Rohl is said to be looking at options in Central Europe.

Last year the earlier European qualifiers played a part in the schedule, but the new Europa League campaign does not commence until after the first game of the new Premiership season takes place.

The full complement of key dates for the 2026/27 season will follow soon.
